Radiofrequency Microneedling gives a deeper and more intense delivery of energy to induce collagen remodeling and skin tightening.
Radiofrequency microneedling similar to regular microneedling, creates micro-channels in the skin to stimulate collagen production. The effects of collagen-rich tissue is tighter skin, less wrinkles, reduced scars, improved texture and overall tone of the skin.
The microneedles trigger the wound healing cascade, the production of growth factors, and collagen production at the level of the skin which leads to firmer, more rejuvenated skin. The needles also help to mechanically break down the scar tissue. Like traditional microneedling, radiofrequency microneedling can be used on all skin tones and Fitzpatrick skin types.
Microneedling can treat:
-
- Uneven Skin Tone/Texture
- Fine line and wrinkles
- Enlarged pores
- Facial/Neck Skin Laxity
- Scars
- Mild Hyperpigmentation
- Eyelid Skin Laxity
- Upper Lip Lines
What to Expect?
The skin is thoroughly cleansed. A topical anesthetic cream is then applied to the treatment area. The device is gently applied to the skin and radiofrequency (RF) is turned on. The device is evenly applied over the skin to ensure optimal results. Following RF microneedling, treatment specific serums are then applied to the skin.Treatment takes approximately 30 minutes, one hour to account for prep. An after care kit or routine including a gentle cleanser, calming lotion, and sunscreen SPF 50 or higher. Two to three treatments over the course of 6 months may be needed to achieve final treatment goals.
What are the side effects and downtime for RF microneedling?
-
- Most patients experience minor redness, drying or flakey skin due to the effects of resurfacing after RF microneedling. Other effects such as pinpoint bleeding, mild bruising, itching and swelling may also occur. It is recommended to refrain from exercise for the first 24 hours. After approximately 7-10 days, your normal skin routine may be resumed.
- Contraindications to RF microneedling include current use of Accutane, prior radiation, autoimmune skin disorders, defibrillator, active infection, open wound, pregnant, or history of keloid/hypertrophic scar formation.
- Please let your provider know if you have a history of cold sores, take any blood thinners, have a history of hyperpigmentation or melasma as these may require specific medications or guidelines before and after treatment.
Can I combine RF microneedling with erbium laser resurfacing?
Yes. Radiofrequency Microneedling can be combined with erbium laser resurfacing to improve results for skin rejuvenation. While radiofrequency Microneedling stimulates collagen production and rejuvenation at the deeper levels of the skin to tighten and eliminate scarring, the erbium laser targets superficial skin conditions such as pigmentation, age spots and fine lines. The combination of the two modalities provides through and through rejuvenation of the skin.
